shade for food storage
« on: November 17, 2008, 03:48:22 PM »
I was just wondering if it would be okay to use a very nice well constructed outdoor shed for food storage as long as it was well insulated. I would like to line it with selves but I not so sure it's the best place to keep things. I would give anything to have a nice big basement. Any suggestions? :greet009: Thanks

That would depend on your climate and what you intend to store.

We store most of our bulk dry goods, textiles, small tools etc in outbuildings.  Canned goods do not do well if frozen or overheated.  "in the shade" suggests heat is more of a problem where you live and if so under a shade tree and with a reflective roof may eliminate the need for insulation.  Then there is humidity, our climate is relatively dry most of the year so moisture related spoilage is minimal even with a really iffy roof.  Hope this helps.

Security is always a problem with an outdoor shed. Can you build an attachement on the north side of your house?
