Propane fuel conversion
« on: November 14, 2008, 11:02:12 AM »
Hello

I have put some thought into my most prevalent concern should things go to hell.  That being fuel and my access to it. When I was a kid, all of our farm trucks ran on a 100 gal propane tank as my father was very tight with his budget and somewhat of a mechanical wizard.  This worked great because we would fill up (granted that was a pain to do) but drive forever.  Now if the world gets weird, there are CO-OPs all across the midwest as well as the small tanks at every home depot to make use of. If every swinging monkey is fighting tooth and nail for the last drop of gasoline, it would seem to me that the 10,000 gallon tanks at all CO-OPs or the 600 gallon tanks behind about every farmstead in the midwest would be the best way to get out-o-dodge.  I currently have a 91 Pathfinder for my scoot-and-shoot vehicle. I want to change to an older club cab truck and convert to propane to give me that long haul capability and because I think propane would be easier to find.   Any thoughts on what I may be missing?  Also, you don't have to Stabilize it and all my stoves and heaters run on propane so it gives me a one fuel convenience.

Mike

A propane conversion would be nice. Last I checked, the kits were running about $2500.
