Zip-loc Bags
« on: October 31, 2008, 06:07:14 AM »
I seem to remember reading somewhere that applying a smear of vegetable oil on the zip-loc helps to ensure a better seal. Does anyone have any information or ideas on this?

Never heard that. I just fold the top over and tape it down.

My Mother does tomatoes: washed, into zip-lock and sucks the air out with a straw.  Not high teck. They do fine in the freezer for a year, without noticable loss of color, taste, etc.   She rotates annually, so longer than a year, I do not know.

I find the traditional zip-loc bags work better than the newer ones with the little thingie that you slide back and forth.  The slide thingie can't get close enough to the corner, because it is square while the corner is narrow.

Thanks Alaskan, though as I'm in the middle of repacking a whole heap of stuff myself, am trying it out myself.
