About to get clobbered by winter storm
« on: January 17, 2012, 02:13:22 PM »
We're reportedly about to get hit by the mother of all winter storms. They're expecting potential record amounts of snow. Not too surprising as it came down from Alaska where it has already produced record amounts of snow, and it will presumably pick up more humidity over the Pacific.

We should be fine, though timing could be better vis a vis school and me down with a severe cold.

My network card stopped working suddenly. I'm using an ethernet cable but it's a bit short. Need a little longer one. I'll call around to look for one.

Power might go out anyway, even in the city. Snow gets stuck in old dying trees, and takes them down. I also need to work on packing orders, and taxes, if the power doesn't go out.

Big hugs.

Praying for the safety of you and your family. Even though I know you are better prepared than most, I still hope you don't lose power. Hang in there, and give us an update when the storm is over.

Kind of funny, we are making our way across the Pacific on the way to Alaska and have not hit any thing big yet, as far as weather. A few snow sqalls, but that can change at anytime even with all the weather stuff we have on board. Be safe and warm down their is Seattle :greet025:

Atash.. Hope all goes well during the bad weather. At least you are one of the few who have had the foresight to be prepared for things like that. Hope you get your network back up and running soon. Wife and i will be sending our prayers and warm thoughts to you and your family until better weather. Stay warm.

Thanks, folks, I appreciate the kind thoughts. I'm back in business with a little longer ethernet cable, and more labels. I'm making labels for seed packs, for Tom and my seed and tuber business. If it snows but doesn't take out the power, I'll be sitting snug in my home making labels and putting them on seed packs. If the power does go out, I'll probably hide out in my bed and recover from my cold!  :crutches:

Plenty of food here, and emergency supplies if we need them. I assume that folks inland will get some of this. Batten down the hatches I suppose.

I just looked outside and it's dumping pretty good as I type, and Im glad I bought the back up generator recently too. Studded snow tires are on and ready for tomorrows work commute.

This is the time when the die hards look good above everyone else, showing up on time is half the battle.

Just read the Komo weather report and it said that Seattle is not going to get hit as hard with snow as first thought. But it did say Tacoma may get more. Snow is suppose to hit between 2 am - 4 am Wed morning.

3:45PM here 20 miles east of the continental divide and the temp is -7 with a slight wind and a bit of snow blowing around. Funny how even here where we almost pride ourselves on having "real" winter people still drive without caution. Just saw three cars in the ditch in the 12 miles from town to our house.

South Sound got the worst of it. We got plenty.

Ryder, I know what you mean. People often tell me they notice a lot of 4-wheel drives in the ditch--thought they were impervious. Bravado does not impress me. Fools rush where angels fear to tread.

what lots of people don't get about 4 wheel drive is that it does no good at all when you let off the gas
most of driving is the driver,
people like getting better cars, but often don't bother to get better skills
