Need help with commo gear
« on: October 28, 2008, 11:01:51 PM »
I'm looking for some radios with headsets that a group of people can use together. I would need it to be weatherproof and have either encryption or frequency hopping capability. I have no idea what's available. Is there a commo guy in the house?

Opsec, I haven't screwed with it much lately, but many of the FRS radios are ruggedized and water resistant. They also can be had with headset jacks with push to talk or voice activated. They also have side bands, which is a weak encyption. Gov't will have it broken in half a second. Here's one as an example. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=motorola+frs&oe=utf-8&cid=7545009316656068036#ps-sellers

If you want something better try this http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/539529-REG/Motorola_RDU2020_Model_RDU2020_RDX.html#features Anything better will be Law Enforcement/Military I had ordered some for our team, Kenwood TK-380 about $550 a piece. http://www.morriswireless.com/kenwood/kenwood_TK-380.htm This is the company I had the PO with. Of course they don't have prices posted. eBay Had them cheaper, but they don't take gov't PO's :happy005:

There is nothing in the civilian market that the govt doesn't have codes for. Just sayin. Hell, it's all they can do to keep US off THEIR bands.

The objective isn't so much about keeping Uncle Sam's nose out of my business, but to keep neighbors, wandering predators and any other people with scanners from listening in on me after TSHTF.
