Wow! Great find. All the more reason for me to keep distilling my water. I wonder if distilling will remove lithium???

yes it will, but it is extremely slow and energy intensive. I would do reverse osmosis instead.

People, I call BS on this because it would BANKRUPT each and every municipality MANY TIMES OVER to buy the amount of Lithium they would need to put in water. I doubt that much lithium is even available...........

lithium is cheep enough to do it,
but the running out of money will sure help them not bother.

before the quake/tsunami/meltdown in japan they were planning to add it there,
but it looks like all the mess took away what they were planning

reverse osmosis would be the easiest way to go if you live in a city,
but there might be an even cheaper way as lithium is very reactive

metallic lithium is very reactive, that is why it is never found in nature

trust me, you could not spike lithium into water supply.

The U.S. uses 44 Billion gallons of water a day.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_supply_and_sanitation_in_the_United_States

that comes to 166 Billion litres of water a day. a litre of water is a kilogram so
166 billion kilograms of water a day.

so to make a 0.1% solution of Lithium salt in water a day you would need 166 Million kilograms
of lithium salt per day to dissolve in the water. Good luck finding 166 million kilograms everyday.....

I have run my distiller with a bunch of mirrors reflecting the sun onto the bottom of it. (I did get it up to temp from the stove burner) going to play around with this more this year. sadly I tried to link the model I have, but it is no longer made. there is another model that lets you use fire or other sources like many reflected suns, the waterwise 1600... but its a poor design imo.

There are also many passive designs people have made that use the sun.  Problem with it, is the materials most use on the easier to build ones have contaminants as well.

I prefer distilling myself. you never have an issue with clogged or contaminated filters.

with distillation you want to use an all glass apparatus, anyways that's my method

goto the lab section of ebay,

look for 24/40 round bottom flasks in different sizes, distillation adapters and finally condensers.

those are the three main things you need.

it is energy intensive, but is the absolute purest water you can possibly get.

Any comments on the consumption of distilled water in connection with the flushing of minerals from the human body? My limited knowledge is that distilled water is very benificial for flushing the body but contraindicated for sustained use.

I would think that drinking distilled water only will "flush" everything out of your system,

But if you eat anything during the course of your experiment, well , then you defeated the purpose
of drinking distilled water.

I would just drink normal (non-municipal or spring water) and eat sensibly.

I've read different things about whether water stripped of minerals will strip the minerals out of your body.

Some people say yes, and so you should add a pinch of salt to your water.

Some people say that if you intake minerals in your meals, you've got enough to adjust the water in your body.

-------

FYI, my reverse osmosis water had a pH of 6.  So does my tap water.

that's the point LL.

Any meal by definition will have minerals, thereby ablating any purpose whatsoever in drinking distilled water.

If you really want to cleanse the system , drink distilled water. But any food will have minerals, carbs, salts, sugars, fats etc by definition

Also, at what point does drinking 100.000% pure water versus 99.99% pure water have any real difference?

Only in your pocketbook.
