I like your approach, and first need is to preserve the frozen foods through "normal" outages, and a propane variety also sounds appealing though for those long term issues i'm wondering if a small solar system would be a better idea.
For some reason people have selected me to receive their old "what is this for?" 100 pound propane bottles. Oh says eye, that's just an old junk propane tank you'll never use. If you like i'll haul it away for you. So far there are three of them, figure at worst they become barter items later and at best they supplement the 500 gal tank.
