I know that there are some members here who have AK's, SKS's and other weapons that use the 7.62X39 cartridge. Apparently the U.S. has slapped financial sanctions on Russia's state arms exporter for its dealings with Iran, a move that was described by Russia as something "without international legal foundation," the Washington Post reported Saturday.
Under the U.S. law, any assets of the entities or individuals being sanctioned will be frozen, and
no Americans are allowed to do business with them. Here's the story:

Russia criticizes U.S. sanctions against arms exporterhttp://en.rian.ru/world/20081024/117941591.html"...(snip)...The sanctions against Rosoboronexport are valid for two years, and bar any U.S. aid, contracts or arms sales to the blacklisted entities. The order was signed on October 16, and came into effect on Thursday. A Rosoboronexport representative on Friday called the sanctions a "manifestation of unethical competition."
"We view the imposition of sanctions
with regard to the sole Russian facilitator of arms sales as a manifestation of unethical competition," Vyacheslav Davydenko told reporters.

My guess would be that this also covers the 9X18 Makarov as well as the 7.62X54R cartridge too. I just thought I'd pass this along to those who don't quite have the amount of ammo in these calibers that they'd like to have.
It looks as though the less expensive Russian ammo supply is going to be drying up faster than anticipated.
