Kids + windows scare me. Kids seem to have little sense of the danger of falling out of windows. Once we had the neighbors across the street over for Halloween. Their two boys ran at my sofa--which is right in front of a massive picture-window--and launched themselves into the air. The sofa fell back and propelled them right at the glass window-pane.
Just about gave me a heart attack.
After that I asked my wife if she had sprung for tempered safety glass--which would have made sense. Less likely to break and less likely to slice a throat open from the shards. She never even considered the option--it didn't occur to her.
In Hong Kong which has lots of high-rise apartments they have bars over the windows so it's relatively hard to fall out. I think the bars are actually to deter cat-burglars!
