The Internet Grocer - Source for Storage Foods
« on: October 24, 2008, 09:23:17 AM »
The Internet Grocer seems to be a good source of foods for storage.

http://web2.airmail.net/foodstr2/

I was searching the web for canned bacon like I used to get in the 1970's for a buck at our local chain drugstore/convenience store.

I found some at a little over $10 a can.  Man, I think they are taking advantage of the situation.  At that rate the price increase beats that of gasoline!

Also, www.waltonfeed.com and www.nitro-pak.com. These suppliers are anywhere from 2-3 months out from delivery. Better get it sooner rather than later.

You can also try http://safecastleroyal.com/category_4/Storage-Food-Prep.html.  If you're not a royal buyers club member the cost is astronomical, but it only costs $19.00 to join the buyers club, then you get free S&H and a 20% discount which brings it more inline with the other sites prices.

After waiting for 3 weeks and paying the S&H from other internet sites for the delivery of my canned butter, ordering from Safecastle proved to be faster and just a tad cheaper overall.  IIRC the price of the Yoders canned bacon was $128.00 a case including S&H for the buyers club members.

It is quite pricey, but I consider it a luxury.  Mashed potatoes with a little bacon crumbled up in it with a pat of butter and some garlic powder, is a real comfort food and moral boost for me.  :laughing002:

Man, you could save a lot of money on that bacon by buying the bacon bits TVP instead. I don't like TVP, but I do like the bacon bits. Those go great on a potato, and it costs a lot less than real bacon.

I've tried the TVP bacon bits before, for some reason they seem to wreak havoc on my system.  I agree, it would be much cheaper to use the TVP, but for me, the monetary savings isn't worth the systemic problems it produces.

Well I suppose that's good in a way. If you can afford that kind of luxury, that must mean that you are already well prepared with the basics, so this is actually encouraging to me.

I few site I use that I think are pretty good. Be warned that most of these sites now have back orders and a delay in delivery. If you can find something locally you might get your stuff sooner.

About 2yrs worth of basics for my family as well as some for barter and charity.  Not as well prepared as some, but better than others I guess.  :laughing002:  We've always been a prepper type of family, it's a form of insurance for us, if 'ya know what I mean.   :happy005:

Have any of you guys used this source to buy storage foods: www.efoodsdirect.com ?

I feel like I have to make a move in a relatively short order.  I am considering food for a total of 6 to 8 people.  I was planning on a year's supply of food... and working through strategies for water too.  Can you all tell me where you have personally ordered from with good experience?  Is there still a backorder problem?  Any and all specific recommendations are welcome  :happy005:

I hate to say something as stupid as 'money is no object'.  However, I have a relative that may be willing to kick in a substantial amount of greenbacks for the cause.  That said, I am looking at something in between the most economical and the very best way to stock-pile food.

thanks!

I looked at efoods, I think walton feed has more variety of foods. However, there is nothing that says you can't order from both and mix and match. I like efoods Ama-amA cereal bars.
