I joined last night, but this is my first opportunity to post anything. I am generally quiet, but I am certain I will have questions and perhaps even some of my own knowledge to contribute. I am spent 6 years in the US Marines (1st Bt. 9th Mar) until I became a budget cut in the early 90's. From what I have read so far, I am a bit of an anomaly in that I was born and raised in the country in Ohio and again live there. I have just over two acres, but I am surrounded by miles of forest. I suppose that I have been trained in survivalism, since I was a child, and just never thought of it that way. As a boy, I just assumed that everyone knew how to make fire, grow food, preserve it, and when you go hunting you just grab your rifle and a bullet for a few months supply of jerky. In the Corps I learned how to survive in the jungle (Panama and the Philippines), the arctic (Alaska), and the desert (29 palms California and Saudi Arabia). I guess, I learned to survive in an urban environment by spending a lot of time in San Diego and the city of angels. I finally cleared enough trees on my property to get a cow and would like to get some chickens but I haven't got a clue on the chickens; as the last time I had anything to do with them, I was 5 and found myself in a life or death struggle with a Rhode Island Red rooster. At least I got first choice on a prime cut of him that evening's dinner.

Currently I am finishing my degree in Internet Security and work as a computer geek with the grandiose title of tier 2 software engineer, though, I likely couldn't code my way into an infinite loop.
