Not to throw gasoline on the fire but bear in mind that:
1. The expenses on the right are not complete. There is a great deal of shadow budget in existence. Stuff that the US government does not admit exists (eg, foreign and domestic black ops operations) is off-budget. Traditionally so are ostensibly "one time items" but I see a category called "Discretionary One Time Items" that might cover that one, though I remain suspicious because its slice of the pie seems small.
2. On the left, bear in mind that tax revenues are declining as the economy, the fraction of the population that works, and the percentage of the population that are in high-return professions such as engineering are all in decline.
