Hello from Central Florida
« on: October 22, 2008, 07:02:42 PM »
New to this board but belong to a few others with the same basic theme. Like what I see so far and hope I can not only learn some new things but maybe pass some of my knowledge on as well. Have been a prepper for quite a while. Having been raised in a military family and also being a veteran myself  I made it through Hurricane Andrew and his aftermath with very little preps. After that experience I got serious about being fully prepared for anything short of nuclear war. Nope, no fall out shelter, not yet anyways. Y2K passed with out a hitch and I still have some left over MRE's from that fiasco. Thankful that nothing happened back then but I don't believe we are going to be so lucky this time around. Found ya'll via the article on MSN. I'm very happy to see the sheep are awakening. The more people that are willing to help themselves will help all of us make it through the hard times that may be coming upon us. For those that are having a hard time stocking up on food it's really not that difficult. Try to buy what you normally eat in pairs or in bulk. It won't take you long to build up a decent supply plus you'll save money in the long run. Remember to date your items and rotate them out. There is all kinds of good info out there to determine what the storage or shelf life is on the basics. BTW Atash thanks for being here..  :greet009:

Pleased to meet you A7D.  :greet025:

Military, eh? We are soldier-friendly here. When I have some time, I'm going to try to organize something to benefit soldiers and their families. Someone sent me a suggestion that I need to take a closer look at.

I've never had one, but my friends tell me they are not very good, not to mention pricey. You'll do better with plain old dry goods, and some canned food.

Let me tell you a secret  :happy112:: at least part of the hysteria over Y2K was that the credit implosion that is happening now almost happened about then. The Fed flooded the system with new credit--I remember being startled by how brand-spanking-new all the dollar bills were that passed through my hands those days--so that if things went wrong and people noticed, then Y2K would be the cover story.

We are quite well-informed here, so watch the news and discussion threads. I'm not posting as much as usual, because I'm trying to be a good host to my new guests, but we've got some folks here who have better news sources than I do, so maybe they'll step up to the plate.
We're running out of petroleum. Are you ready?

Hello A7D,

Central Florida huh, what part? I lived in Groveland and in Sandford from 2003-2005. Prior to that I was in Jacksonville for 10 years. I am currently in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Va and plan on returning in the spring. Know of any COUNTRY-RURAL areas that are decent?? Would love to talk more, drchefscott@yahoo.com .
