Busy setting up new business
« on: December 15, 2010, 04:20:34 PM »
Drowning in paperwork...

Back soon as possible. You know I'm not out Christmas shopping. The kids will get some money except the oldest boy who gets a cell phone (he has a long commute). Wife will probably get some sort of small nice consumable treat. That's it.

This year christmas cost me a grand total of $55.00 including shipping costs. What can I say? My heart is two sizes too small.

Condolences on the paperwork!  I disappear into that rabbit hole regularly.

The treats for the young ones will be the pot luck dinners we will go to, and the cousins to play with.

I made up a very old dark fruit cake recipe to give as Christmas presents.  Perhaps will also do a few dozen butter tarts and some shortbread.  Everyone with then participate in eating it all.  The rest of the family does pretty much the same, my mother volunteered the turkey etc this year and others are giving the cost of their travel so we can see them.

My heart is two sizes too small.

I don't like the "Christmas spirit". Evil spirit. Grumpy and gluttonous shoppers. I cringe whenever they report on the latest outrage during "Black Friday" (you know, riots breaking out over discounted goods)...I worry TPTB think we are all that way.

I don't mind a certain amount of tastful seasonal cheery atmosphere. It's the hedonism and desperation to win approval that disgust me. People who don't love me aren't going to start loving me if I buy them expensive stuff.

I tend to deal with the material hype by being a bit of a hermit over the holidays.  Restricting my contact, outside of business to family, close friends and a few people in the immediate neighbourhood.
