Hi, all
« on: October 21, 2008, 03:45:55 PM »
Probably a lot of people joined up because of this article on MSN, like me. I have for some instinctive reason always been working on at least having the skills and health to be able to survive when "dropped in the wilderness". Even raised my kid that way, and now at age 20 she tells me she loved it. We live in the middle of the big city but rented a small vegetable-plot outside for a few years, went camping with a tent, etc.

I have been thinking about these issues a lot, like buying light-weight, foldable solar panels, having a small generator that runs on vegetable oil, having money handy in the form of small platinum bars, that kind of thing. I am dirt poor but there are still possibilities. As long as we do not have satelite-trackable chips under our skins, I believe we could make it somewhere. Only thing that worries me is self-defence if and when hunger strikes and we are the only one's with food for miles around.

I felt overwhelmed and lonely sometimes, afraid to be stamped "crazy" too. Very glad to have found this forum.

You're right, and the web-traffic got me in trouble with my host, but we're using as best we can.

Well, we had a small community but now we've got a bigger one. Read the section about "Blessed with Asperger's Syndrome". What it means is that I could not think "in the box" if I wanted to; I lack the typical instinct to go along with the crowd (and seem to attract "free spirits"). So no need to be afraid!

You probably have some skills I don't--but I'm getting with the program as quickly as possible. I spent much of my adult life in the corporate world, making good money, and then one day I noticed that there were some structural problems with our economy...and then I started noticing cultural problems...

We live in the middle of the big city

A lot of us do, including my family and I, but I am lucky to have what by city standards is a huge backyard. Not enough to live on, but that is not what we are anticipating doing most of the time--there was a reason for the big bag of rice and lentils (and I have a lot more of that).

Some of us may go looking for farmland elsewhere. I will take a trip probably this spring (our spring, their autumn, hint hint), although a baby on the way (#4) complicates matters.
We're running out of petroleum. Are you ready?

re: "As long as we do not have satelite-trackable chips under our skins..."

That's not as far-fetched as you might think.  One of the reasons I am opposed to RealID is that it is a hop, skip and a jump from there to total government control over everyone.  Once RealID becomes the standard, a logical next step would be for the government to require it for all purchases.  Then cash can be eliminated completely - using the rationale that electronic money is so CONVENIENT.  Once we're on electronic money, a tyrant can then separate his enemies from their funds, effectively starving them.

Moreover, government can keep records on everything you've bought... and everything you've been.  It won't be hard to prove that someone surreptitiously met up with someone else.  Just compare toll booth payment records and bar receipts.

The potential is hideous - but inevitable if RealID goes through.

Will this happen?  I think so.  But regardless, BE PARANOID.  It'll get you through what's coming, regardless of the form it takes.

Decomposed,
I think you, me and Scratchingwolf are on the same page.
