Hey Y'all
« on: October 21, 2008, 03:34:33 PM »
I live in northern Denver, CO. A concise summary of my background may be in order:
1.) 12 years experience as a disaster preparedness manager for NATO
2.) 23 years experience as a municipal water & wastewater plant operator/manager
3.) Actively 'prepping' & stockpiling for 4 years
4.) Maintain a website that may be of interest for pandemic preparedness

Glad to be here!

Excellent. Hearty welcome!  :greet009:

Yes, very interesting...the pandemic preparation caught my eye instantly--there was a post on the internet about how to create do-it-yourself smallpox vaccines (apparently if you get it under your skin and not in your lungs it's not usually fatal), that I wish I had saved. I might create a "members only" section for talking about that kind of thing (for reasons you can guess).

Disaster preparation is another one we've been talking a lot about lately. I am OK for a "banking holiday" (euphemism for shutting down the banks) but a major earthquake would be hard on us. We need some preparation lists, and emergency lists, for my wiki, when it is back up.

I'd like to see your pandemic site, when the firestorm of hits from MSN publicity dies down a little (trying to keep the site up...grumpy webhosts took some of it down...). Please remind me.

Pleased to meet you.  :greet025:

Hi Larry,  Its good to see some other people from CO on this site. I lived in Arvada for 11 years. Over off of 60th and Lamar, until I was able to make it up to the mountains.  Loved it. (except for the trains) Now I am down off of hwy 285 about 45 min from town.

I looked over your site.  http://www.drum-runners.com/  A lot of good info there.  Keep up the good work.

Know any other like minded people around?  Maybe we could do a meetup or something?  Up for lunch one Saturday?  I could come down to town.  Let me know.  Always interested in meeting new people.

Anyway glad you are here.

Robert

I consider myself a Denver native. I wasn't actually born there, but I've been there so long that it's a moot point. Aurora and Commerce City are my old stompin' grounds.

Hey Robert. I'm really glad that some of the information on my website may help folks with disaster preparedness planning, including a probable H5N1 high lethality (CFR) pandemic. In my opinion, we are overdue for it and it may well cripple the US for quite some time after it is over. Our JIT (Just In Time) economy and supply system will be totally inadequate to deal with it. As far as 'other like minded people' that I know, the answer is absolutely a solid YES. I have been cleaning and disinfecting 55-gallon drinking water drums for the last couple of years, and I have to say I have never seen them being bought up like I have during the last 4 or 5 months or so. A conservative estimate from folks I have personally met and sold supplies to are close to 2500 families, with more contacting me daily.

On a few occasions, I was asked to give an informal lecture or two to fairly large gatherings on pandemic preparedness. Again, a conservative estimate of close to 800 individuals. So, awareness & action are happening here in Colorado I'm happy to say.

Lunch sounds good, I'm a McDonald's kind of guy, but we will need to meet towards the afternoon on Sat. since I spend almost every morning at the firing range. If you want, email me at coinsets2001@yahoo.com or give me a ring at 303-810-5786 sometime.

Firing range sounds good too!  I don't get to shoot as often as I would like, but it is always worth it.  I will contact you soon.

Hi Opsec (love the name!). Ditto, I wasn't born here either (was hatched actually in Iowa on a rundown 140 acre farm), but this is home now. Don't ski, snowboard or go 4 wheelin' either. I do 'exercise' my weapons on a routine weekly basis, give lectures to folks preparing for hard times, and continue to prepare my own family for a survival situation. Other than that, I spend the remaining 3 or 4 hours of my daily free-time reading or sleeping!

Hey Larry,
Here is a post that was started a while back.  Have any ideas on it?  If you could add to that thread it would be great.

I'll need to review the thread carefully first before I chip in my 2c worth, but will add a comment on what I have done so far in a little while. For this moment, there is a link on my website (and here too) that may REALLY be worthwhile taking a look at:

http://www.ag.state.co.us/FoodAgDirectory/ProductSearch.asp

It is a list of vendors in Colorado for produce, grains, honey, meat ect. I have used it already to lay in a few hundred pounds of honey, certainly worth a look.
