Welcome Thomas to the forum.

Well I have a AR-15, AK47 and shotgun but I would like to have a nice 308 added to the collection and for hunting I would like a 30.06. Mini 14 would be kind of cool to have.

Handguns - Glock 17 Ruger GP100 4"

Vehicle - going to try and sell the 2 wheel drive truck and get something with 4 wheel drive. I think the 65 Mustang will work if a EMP hits.

Looking at Alaska for remote land.

As for vehicles, anything pre-1980. I do anticipate an EMP event and I don't trust all the electronic wizardry in modern vehicles anyways. Too expensive to repair.

Retreat-wise. 20 acres of arable land with a shallow water table under it. Preferably within driving distance a town of 10,000 residents or so. Those number will be enough to defend against maurauders. Have some perimeter defense around it to keep people from driving up to or even into your house. Fences with gates that are not for decorative purposes. Defensive landscaping techniques.

Gun wise, pretty much anything will work as long as you have more ammunition than your potential adversaries. Long rang capability is good. If you can shoot them, but they can't shoot you, you win. Pistols are a must as the home invasion robbery scenario will be all to common.

Ah...we have a Title II enthusiast among us. There's a lot of good ways to employ a .22 with a can in a post SHTF situation.

Especially if you have an IR laser aiming device and NV-PS14

Question?

I understand the point of a bug out vehicle and that they should be pre-1980 and 4x4.

My question is if it is a vehicle that you will not drive would it be better to not even tag the vehicle. Perhaps buy a cheaper vehicle with no title and keep it in the garage loaded down and ready to go?

I'm not sure that there would be much of an advantage there. If the situation is to the point that you need to use your bugout vehicle, I doubt the police are going to run plates. If it's an issue, just take the plates off when you roll.

One BOV that works for me is a older Chevy pickup that I drive occasionaly and a fully loaded old slide in camper sitting in the back lot ready to back under and head for parts unknown.
One thing about guns and ammo. I try to shoot a few rounds once a week. I rotate between various guns and of course I always shoot off about 50 rounds of 22. If I suddenly have to use a gun I want muscle memory. I don't have to go to a range to shoot either......another thing I like about montana.
Gotta learn how to knit socks and mittens if you want to survive in montana.

Opsec. Thats kind of what I thought as well. I think my dream vehicle would be a International Scout 80 or Scout II. They are getting harder to find and they shape you find them in are usually rusted out and sitting in some field.

nice list oldsoldier. Since on my best day I'd do well to be considered a rifleman of average ability it was easy to use those FRNs for other goodies rather than those long range shooters for real marksmen. But good optics can help even me

Win model 70 in 30.06 w/ 4x9 scope
Marlin model 336 in win 30-30 lever action open sights
Marlin model 45, w/ RedDot (magazines interchangeable w/ 1911)
Ruger 10/22 w/ RedDot
Rem 870, 12 ga, 26" barrel (2.75" chamber)
Rem 1170, 12 ga,30" (3" chamber)
Springfield 1911
Norinco 1911
Glock model 30 (thanks Hancocs)
Ruger MK-II
Thompson Center Renegade .54 cal blackpowder

can never have too much ammo!
