You know, a .22 is the ultimate survival weapon.  They are fairly cheap still, the ammo is cheap, and with exact bullet placement will take down anything from a chipmunk to a small deer safely.  Everyone should have one, and a couple thousand round of various ammunitions for it, everything from shorts to high velocity hollow points and solids.

If you can catch it and kill it, or grow it, dont buy it.

Well, dropped a deer yesterday.  Today it is in the freezer.  Blogged the hunt at http://threedaughtersfarm.com/wp/

Think I will pick up a tag for DH tomorrow.  Just a subtle hint and then get the stuff together to do up some venison pastrami.

Nicely done. Have you given any thought to trying your hand at trapping? You're in a real good area for that.

Time and legality.  Time is the biggest issue in that regard.  I have traps.  Snares.  And they would be far more efficient.  I do trap squirrels and coons which have kept the dog food bills away for a long time.  Those I just trap at my home where I can check the trap twice a day.  For snares and the like, I need to check it daily and I am just not somewhere I know I am not going to be getting people's pets or I can check on a regular basis.  Too much time I need to spend at the office and doing other things.

If it comes to it, I will take out every mammal I can to feed us, and I know how to do it in an efficient way.  But until that moment of need arises, I will stick as close to law abiding as I can.

This weekend is my wife's deer hunting weekend.  We are all headed down to my parent's place and I watch the kids while she hunts.  <smile> I think she is looking forward to some quiet time in the woods.

Weekend was a bust for us.  Whole family got sick.  Didnt even get home until today because we were incapable of driving without fair assurance of not throwing up while traveling.

When we got home, I found we had an email from the school, last friday after hours, that a bug was going around school that involved lots of vomiting and diharea.  Hooray.

Gotta love our schools.

Our school is circulating a similar illness.  We spent most of the weekend sleeping.
