The warning is created by the forum software. It's not a setting I have control over. I have no objections to old topics being revisited; if they are still relevant then it's probably just as well to revisit them from time to time. Just click past the warning.
Welcome.
The use of "phallologocentric" (feminist term of derision for certain ways of thinking) was undoubtedly in parody.

We have some women on board who are good at math and logic, and who therefor are unlikely to sneer at same.
Since a lot of topics have built up over time, and since some old ones haven't been revisited for a while, the gist of it is that we're trying to get ready for hard times ahead, associated with the collapse of a financial bubble, as well as what is worse, so-called "peak oil" (Hubbert's peak, whatever you want to call it). I've been telling folks to be ready no later than 2012. Some here feel that is optimistic, but there is much to do.
Being ready means storing food for crises, having little or preferably no debt (even though inflation might help some of us out in that respect), having some basic self-sufficiency skills and preferably some means to be self-sufficient (if nothing else at least grow some of your own veggies), being prepared to defend yourselves from everyday crime as law and order continue to break down, and, perhaps most importantly, belonging to cooperative communities of friends and extended family.
The current financial crisis is fairly minor in terms of impact to most people. I say that realizing that many folks are losing houses and jobs. It will get significantly worse in the foreseeable future.

Some folks post pix of their veggies. I'm a bad-boy and often post pix of flowers or interesting plants in my garden. These are just for enjoying, and not for encouraging anyone to spend time on luxuries. Before I realized how much trouble we were in, I had the hobby of collecting a few rare things. Hobbies are now for the rich, except maybe insofar as you can make a "hobby" out of something actually useful.
