I predicted this years ago. I don't mean this particular policy...I mean that starving people are desperate, and in no position to dictate terms of surrender, guns or not.

The annual Gifts for Guns program wound down Sunday in Compton, a working-class city south of Los Angeles that has long struggled with gun and gang violence. In a program similar to ones in New York and San Francisco, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department allows residents to anonymously relinquish firearms in return for $100 gift cards for Ralphs supermarkets, Target or Best Buy.

Turning in assault rifles yields double that amount.

In years past, Target and Best Buy were the cards of choice, with residents wanting presents for the holidays.

This year, most asked for the supermarket cards, said sheriff's Sgt. Byron Woods.

"People just don't have the money to buy the food these days," he said.

I always believed that financial starvation would be the mechanism. The government just looks at the gun purchase records and freezes your bank accounts. No money = no food. Same effect. I think it's time you open another forum dedicated to canibalism. I'll post first.

Wouldn't the smart person use distract and redirect tactics on the police? I would.

Buy your gun legally on record and if they ask you to relinquish it then give them the identical non-working gun instead that you bought for spares. how would they know the difference?

Laugh. I don't know if it would work or not, but I like your "out of the box" thinking. Most people's ideas are dumb, like resisting, that would just get them killed. Distraction, redirection, indirection, deception, etc, are all weapons that they use on US, but do not expect us to use on them.

Really, it is a very well known dog training tactic. It will be in any good dog training book under "getting rid of bad behaviour"

For example:  Your dog has a bad habit of jumping on people ( true story BTW ), so next time before she jumps on you you stick out your hand and snap your fingers and say "sit"

the first action, sticking your hands out and snapping your fingers distracts her from jumping on you.

the second action, giving her a command to sit redirects her attention.

Good effective training.
It is done to us by the media all the time..........

Move to the edge of the herd. It's a old adage about buffalo herds going over buffalo jumps (where the herd plummets over the cliff and the natives eat well). Before they come for guns move off to the edge of the herd with no forwarding address.

I can appreciate all these comments. I will definitely look at acquiring non-functional parts and assemble a weapon to turn over. Bear in mind that ATF agents are not dumb, they do a thorough search on raids, even if they find "bait" weapons. I do not know how that will apply during a mass confiscation, but it should be considered.

I always expected ammo control. Put a huge tax on ammo, make lead a controlled substance, something of that nature. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFcVwDw4YLE

I will face my fear
I will permit it to pass over me and through me

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing
Only I remain

Not impossible. No need to ban, simply regulate and tax.

Every change to the system has downstream effects. Sometimes people don't notice a bit of indirection (which is why it is a good defensive weapon). Regulate lead, for "environmental reasons", and put a heavy tax on it "to pay for environmental projects", and bullets could soar in price without even having to ban them outright. (You could even have Obama give a passionate "crocodile tears" speech about the right to self-defense, just to make sure that 99% of the population failed to make the connection!).

This would cause them to become more unaffordable, and the total number of retail outlets carrying them to decline. It would create a self-reinforcing spiral, to reduce the total amount of guns and ammo in the system.

A great distraction would be to run an add in the paper with all of your registered guns for sale. When someone comes looking for them told em' you sold em'.

Look, when it is time for the government to come and get our guns they are going to have considered all the possiblities that everyone talks about. Because of that you are going to have to be more creative when it comes to hiding your weapons.

In the end, Heston talk will not get you far. They will pry it from your warm dead hands.
If you attempt to hide your weapons, I hope you are not caught.
You and your family will be considered an enemies of the country.  :char039:
